He's Alive!!!

Yesterday's events were truly miraculous! Determined to go out to Christ's tomb even though my heart felt like it had split into a million pieces, I started walking down the street towards the tomb. From a distance I saw Mary Magdalene and James mother, Mary. My heart sunk as I know they were in deep mourning and I wasn't sure I could bear their grief as well as my own. They seemed highly agitated from afar but as I got closer to them I could see they weren't agitated but extremely excited. Barely able to make out their words, as they were talking in such excitement and at such a rapid pace. I asked them to slow down a bit so I could understand what they were trying to tell me.

I don't remember which told me first as they were still talking a thousand miles an hour but they said, "Don't go to the tomb, Christ is not there!" "What?" I asked. Again, they repeated that Christ was not in the tomb. They went on further to explain that early in the morning they went out to the tomb an angel of the Lord appeared to them and a great earthquake occurred as he came down from heaven. The angel told them not to be afraid for he knew the Jesus who was crucified and who they were looking for. He then told them - He is not here; for He has risen as He said. He told us to look in the tomb to see where Jesus had lay. He told us to tell all the disciples to go to Galilee and meet Jesus on the mountain. You will be able to see Jesus there. We were running to tell all of you what the angel told us. They then started to tell me, "We met Jesus, he talked with us this morning!" Talk about jubilation!

What a celebration we were having. My mourning turned to rejoicing! We have to hurry now to get the word out to go to Galilee to see our Lord! He's alive, he's alive, Hallelujah - HE'S ALIVE!

CALVARY

I am terribly ashamed of myself. How could I have ran and left Jesus alone to deal with the I believe was at least 60 if not more Roman soldiers, elders and chief priests. The Roman soldiers looked menacing carrying their swords and many had clubs. Jesus asked them who they were looking for and they said Jesus. Did you see what happened when he said I Am. They all fell back to the ground. You would think that was a "little" odd wouldn't you? I was astounded watching Judas greet Jesus with a kiss. A kiss of betrayal. Hadn't he been with us all those years following our Lord? But, who am I to talk I didn't stay around to help my Lord now did I?

It only seems like such a short time ago that we were observing what I considered was a perfect Passover night. Jesus leading us in the Seder and all of us enjoying and relaxing together. The highlights of that dinner are numerous. From Jesus teaching us about a new covenant that was His body that was broken and his blood that was shed for us, to him washing our feet, to teaching us about who is greatest in His kingdom, and one of my favorites was listening to him pray. There was Jesus Christ the son of God praying to God the Father these words. How incredibly intimate and personal.

Here is His prayer.
Father the hour has come! Glorify your Son that your Son will glorify you as you have given Him authority over all flesh that He should give eternal life to as many as you have given Him. This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God and me, Jesus, Christ, whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I finished the work which You have given Me to do. O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. I have manifested Your name to the those whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me and they have kept Your word. Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them the words which you have given me and they have received them and have known surely that I came forth from you; and they have believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me. For they are Yours. All Mine are Yours and Yours are Mine and I am glorified in them. I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world and I come to you Holy Father keep through Your name those whom You have given me, that they may be one as We are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept and none of them is lost except the son of perdition that Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I came to You and these things I speak in the world that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them Your word and they world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth.

I think about all those powerful moments at Passover and then about my running away being a coward. How could I have done that? I know I tried to follow from far enough away so that I wouldn't be noticed. I wanted to watch what they were going to do to Jesus. They took Him to Annas's house, Caiphas's father in law. Then they took him Caiphas who is the current High Priest. Why did they have him all tied up? He had never been physical with any of them.

I saw Peter and quite a few people standing next to a fire in Caiphas's courtyard trying to stay warm as it was a chilly night. I couldn't make out all of it as I was quite a distance away but, I saw a couple of girls go up to Peter and say something to him. Peter was shaking his head for some reason I couldn't hear what they said to him. A little while later, I heard Peter swearing and talking loudly saying he didn't know the Man. Right then, I saw Jesus turn around and look Peter straight in the eye. It was getting to be almost daylight and a rooster crowed in the distance. Peter ran out from the courtyard fairly quickly and I could hear him weeping bitterly.

The chief priests and elders took Jesus to Pontius Pilate who is the governor. There was quite a crowd gathering watching was happening and the word was spreading quickly around town. Pilate asked him point blank, "Are You the King of the Jews?" Jesus answered him, "It is as you say." The chief priests and elders were accusing Jesus quite heatedly and yet Jesus didn't respond and answer any of their allegations. Pilate was amazed and asked him, "Do You not hear how many things they testify against you?" Yet, Jesus didn't answer him. I think Pilate remembered that it was a custom to release to the crowd a prisoner whom they wished to have released. The most notorious prisoner whom everyone despised in town was Barabbas. So, Pilate asked the crowd, "Do you want me to release Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ." I knew Pilate knew Jesus had done nothing wrong but that the elders and chief priests hated him because of envy. Oddly, I saw Pilate's wife walk up to him and whisper something to him. Later, I would find out she told him, "Have nothing to do with that Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him." The chief priests and elders were persuading the crowd that they should ask for Barabbas and kill Jesus. Again, Pilate asked, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" Everyone was yelling, "Barabbas!" I was amazed that Pilate asked the crowd, "What shall I do with Jesus?" Everyone started yelling, "Crucify Him, crucify him!" "What evil has he done?" No one answered that directly but kept yelling to crucify him. The crowd was working up into a frenzy and Pilate looked like he was getting nervous took some water and said I am innocent of the blood of this just person.

I'm not sure if I can describe the rest it is so extremely brutal. The sheer brutality of what happened is excruciating and painful beyond words. They took my Lord and whipped Him unmercifully. I learned later that the soldiers led Jesus down the the Praetorium. They put a garment colored in purple which symbolizes royalty, thrust a crown made of thorns on his head, and became to taunt him. Ridiculing him, laughing at him, saluting him, "Hail, King of the Jews!" Meanwhile, spitting on him and putting a limp reed in his hand to symbolize a scepter. Doing this to a completely innocent man, not found to have done anything wrong? What kind of justice is this?

When they came out of the Praetorim, I couldn't even recognize Him. It was heart wrenching and that doesn't even come close to the description of what I saw. He was staggering and falling to his knees under the weight of the cross he had on his back. The soldiers grabbed Simon the Cyrene from the crowd and told him to carry the cross up to Golgotha. In the physical shape they had beaten Jesus, I doubt anyone could have supported the cross and walk down the Via De La Roza. My eyes are stinging with grief as I write knowing what I saw next. Hearing the cry of pain as they nailed Jesus through his feet and hands to the cross and then hoisting it up into place. Why was my Lord going through this humiliating, degrading, unjust cruel death when he was innocent? He was being crucified between two robbers who were found guilty of a crime! Their placards upon their crosses bearing their crimes and Jesus's bearing his which stated King of the Jews.

I think back to yesterday morning at 9 a.m. and now to today at 9 a.m. when they put Jesus on the cross and I am stunned and appalled. The hours seemed to drag watching him writhe in pain and seeing the life draining from his body as he hung on that cross. Hour upon hour upon hour. At noon the sky darkened. I had never seen that happen before. At 3 p.m. I heard Jesus cry out, "My God, My God why have you forsaken me?" I saw someone run up to him with a sponge filled with sour wine and offered it to him. Again, Jesus cried out loudly. "Father, into Your hands, I commit My spirit." After He said that, I knew he had breathed his last breath.

I watched as the soldiers went to the robbers to break their legs but when they came to Jesus, they could tell he was dead. They pierced his side. Blood and water flowed from Him.

I heard many who had come down to watch wailing in anguish and beating their breasts as they finally recognized what they had done. Could it have been the darkening of the sky, the earthquake, or hearing Jesus after 6 excruciatingly painful hours hanging on the cross cry out with such vitality - Father, into Your hand I commit My Spirit that made them realize the travesty of what just occurred?"

Thankfully, Pilate gave Joseph of Armithea permission to take Jesus's body. He wrapped it in linen and placed it in a tomb which had never been used before and placed a large stone before it. There wasn't any time to prepare His body properly as the Sabbath started at 6 p.m. and no work was to be done at that time.

My Lord and Savior has died. This morning the tears of heaven are raining down.

GETTING READY FOR PASSOVER

Another wonderful day listening to our Lord teach again wasn't it? Speaking with the chief priests, elders, Pharisees, Saduccees, lawyers must be tiring at times. They always seem to ask him questions to "catch" him in a quandary but he is brilliant! Always able to answer their questions the way he sees fit. He's masterful at either asking them a question back, answering the question directly or by answering in a parable. I loved it yesterday when they asked him, "By what authority and who gave you the authority do you do these things?" His response was priceless. I will also ask you one question. If you answer me then I will tell you by what authority I do these things. His question was to them was the baptism of John from heaven or men? Did you see them all huddle together and go to great length to discuss what and how they should answer.

Okay, I admit I snuck over to where they were to listen to them. I heard them discuss something about if they said John's baptism was from men, a lot of people would be upset with them because a lot of people believed John the Baptist to be a prophet and they didn't want to aggravate the "crowd." Then I heard them discuss if they said it was from heaven then they would be telling the "crowd" that essentially Jesus's authority was from heaven also and as they were the religious leaders how detrimental that would be for them personally. So, they wimped out and answered him that they didn't know by whose authority John's was from.

What about Jesus's prophesy yesterday, saying that the temple would be completely destroyed. I can't imagining that happening can you? ( Footnote: A.D. 70 the temple was completely destroyed by the Romans.)

I'm so grateful we were able to go to the Mt of Olives again. I love it up there. But, again he gave another prophesy this time about the end times of what it will look like before His coming. He said there would be wars and rumors of wars, nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, famines, pestilences, earthquakes in various places, and many deceived by false prophets. He said many of the false prophets and christs will do great signs and wonders to deceive. He told us to be careful. He even said that many who follow him and love him - their love would grow cold but the ones who endures to the end shall be saved. It reminds me of the seeds parable were he said some seed would fall on rocky soil and sprout up quickly but because they didn't have roots they would wither away.

I'm excited about tonight - we get to celebrate Passover together in Jerusalem! I look forward to a great time together and listening to Jesus lead us in Israel's amazing story of God's faithfulness and goodness in saving us from slavery in Egypt.

Triumphant Entry

Totally SPECTACULAR! Wow, was that trip into Jerusalem truly amazing or what? All those hundreds if not thousands of people lining the roads and throwing their coats down before Jesus. I thought they only did that when they welcomed a new king! To give Jesus that recognition and honor was truly spectacular. Oh, did I mention the shouting? The sound was deafening at times. Yelling Hosanna, our salvation is here, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest at the top of their lungs! Such jubilation, I have never seen that type of intensity of complete jubilation and enthusiasm for anyone ever. Our Messiah has come!

I know everyone is in a frenzied pace right now trying to get their Passover lambs up to Jerusalem, preparing for Passover and yet when people heard about Jesus coming into Jerusalem they all rushed to see him. Watching him ride the donkey which is usually reserved for royalty and observing the people shouting, throwing their coats down and then throwing down Palm leaves was a memory I won't soon forget. The only "downer" was again the Pharisees yelling at Jesus to have him rebuke everyone who was shouting for him. I loved it when he told them that even if everyone was quiet still the rocks would cry out! Hallelujah! You tell them Jesus:)

However, what really stunned me and I'm still puzzled by it was seeing Jesus weeping. Why was He so sad? Why was he inconsolable for that time today? I'm not sure I quite understand that yet. Could it be he was driven to such depth of emotion because he was finally recognized to be the King of Israel? Could it be possibly that he saw that they wanted him to be their King for their physical well being but not their spiritual well being? That he saw that even though their mouths praised him their hearts were very far from him and he knew that? It broke my heart to see him so broken up today.

Jesus never ceases to amaze me even after that "wild" trip into Jerusalem, he still got to work up at the temple! Cleaning up the riff-raff that had made it's way into God's house and telling them, "My house is a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves!" He doesn't put up with that one bit. Hates it in fact! They ought to know better.

We are heading back to Bethany again tonight - good thing it's only a couple of miles down the road. I love the trip to the town though going by the Mount of Olives is one of my favorites. I love that place - it has so many special memories being with Jesus and all of us up there. Listening to him teach and hearing him pray. If those trees could talk, the tales they could tell!

I am down on my knees thanking God for what wonderful disciples/friends I have been given the opportunity to spend time with learning from our amazing Lord. See you in Bethany later tonight!

Bethany

The walk to Bethany wasn't too bad was it? It went by fairly quickly leaving Jerusalem and going a few miles south. It's one of the closer towns to Jerusalem which we have visited with Christ. A little easier on the feet:) I love the town of Bethany!

What I remember most about the town was watching Jesus call to Lazarus to come forth from his grave! Wow, truly one of the most miraculous and amazing miracles I've seen Jesus do. Visiting with Lazarus last night at dinner and remembering him coming out of his grave - gives me goosebumps all over. It is wonderful seeing how well he's doing right now. Hearing him laugh, visiting with us and enjoying dinner with us was a blessing! Martha and Mary always do a wonderful job as hostesses. Of course, dinner was delicious!

Somehow though last night seemed more intense, more special. Could it have been watching Mary taking her expensive oil and pouring it on Jesus's feet and wiping it with her hair be that special moment last night? I guess for me seeing someone without any reservations or embarrassment serving him with all her heart was a challenge to my heart! Oh, how the fragrance from the oil filled the house! Glorious! I know it annoyed Judas tremendously to see her do that - he's always the "money" conscious one! Jesus sure got on him though - telling him to leave her alone as we wouldn't always have Him with us. I wondered what he meant by that.

As usual a lot of people surrounded the house, they had heard Jesus had come back to town. I know they were extremely interested in seeing Lazarus again as they had heard he had came back from the dead and wanted to see for themselves. I wondered if their curiosity was satisfied?

Jesus sure has been busy teaching about a lot of things lately. Sometimes it's hard to grasp all of it but I love listening to him and trying to learn everything he talks about. I know he's warned us about quite a few things like hypocrisy, materialism, worry, unfaithfulness, love of ease, unpreparedness, and division. He's answered quite a few questions thrown at him to regarding the justice of God, the Sabbath, the kingdom, the few who are saved. I know there are many more lessons but, those are a few of the ones that come to mind right now. Did you hear we are leaving after the Sabbath to head back to Jerusalem? Many in town were talking about getting their sacrificial lambs chosen for the Passover. Many will be leaving to Jerusalem tomorrow as well to present their chosen lambs to the priest so that they can be prepared for Passover. I know I never get tired of hearing about God saving us from the Egyptians. I'm looking forward to getting there tomorrow!

John 12:2-11

Good Night's Sleep

Good morning Disciples,
Wasn't Zacchaeus a wonderful host last night? I'm so glad he "offered" to have us stay with him, well at least he didn't refuse, after traveling from Jericho into Jersusalem last night. I don't know about you but I slept like a rock last night. I wish I was picked to go get the donkey - I felt like a good walk this morning. Oh, well maybe next time. I think Jesus was talking about going to Bethany tonight so we have a big day ahead of us already. There's never a dull moment walking and seeing him ministering to people. Does anybody want to get breakfast - I'm hungry? LOL
